1) Why did you decide to join Jim’s Pest Control?
I joined Jim’s Pest Control for the fact that most Australians instantly recognise the brand. There was also the benefit of having the support of other franchises and the Jim’s group that if I was by myself I would not have, it also means that if I go on holiday then I know there will be a Jim’s pest control guy who can take care of any jobs that may need to be done urgently while I am away for my valued clients.
2) What are your values?
I have built a decent, stable business that relies on the great customer service that I provide. I am reliable, honest and an expert in my chosen field customers has great confidence that I will be able to fix their pest issues.
3) Tell us about your Family?
I have two children aged 8 and 11, boy and girl. I have a very supportive wife that is helping out in the running of my business and would not be able to do it without her support.
4) What do you like to do outside of work?
I help out coaching at my local football club and also enjoy helping out at my local lifesaving club. In our area we have fantastic beaches and every chance I get I love to go for walks along them with my family and also enjoy calling into our local cafes and dining in our local restaurants, they are first class dining experiences in our area for all budgets.
5) What tips can you give to customers?
With a lot of the cockroach jobs that I come across it is very important to have high hygiene standards as if there are food sources left around this will only encourage the pests and also optimise the breeding conditions for them and by this I mean that even a small crumb will be a feast for a cockroach. If you have chooks or birds the spilt seed should be cleaned up because again this can create a food source for rodents. If you have timber lying around your yard or even up against a wall then this is a good food source for termites. Simple hygiene controls and remove of food sources is the best way of eliminating or reducing the pests around your home.
6) What has been one of your most interesting jobs?
The most interesting job was where I was called out to eliminate a termite colony that had done major damage to this house after 6 weeks I had successfully eliminated the colony of Coptotermes, but the interesting thing was that a few weeks later a colony of Nasutitermes had decided to take advantage of the previous colonies hard work and had move in and taken over from where the last colony had finished. I was then able to eliminate this second colony and able to offer the client a $100,000 warranty against any future termite attack
7) How has your Jim’s Pest Control Franchise been for you since joining?
It has been really good and I enjoy working with other Franchises.
8) Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
In 5 years time I see myself not chasing any new clients and switching off taking any leads. I will do this by giving my valued client list exception customer, I have built some fantastic relationships with my clients and see that in the future I will only have to go out and service these clients and will have a very successful business.
9) Pest issues that you find in your area and unique content.
In Glenelg we have fantastic beaches and cafes, a lot of people just enjoy coming down to Glenelg on a nice hot summer’s night and walk along the beach or jetty. It’s a great place to relax on the weekend and if you bring the kids with you there is always lots of things to do in the area, from playgrounds, bike tracks or just putting a fishing line in the water it’s a really great place to live. Most of my customers are also surprised to learn that most costal suburbs of Adelaide are also prone to termite attack; most people think that the salt and the salt air is what termites don’t like. In actual fact it is the opposite, we see lots of termite damage in the area as the moist air and abundant ground water is the optimum conditions for termites, all they need is a food source which is provided in most houses. In my years with Jim’s I have seen some severely damaged houses in the area and it is always upsetting to me to have to tell a client about the damage I have found during my inspections. This is why I am a strong believer in preventative measures to stop this heartache from happening in the first place.
